Seminars in Australia and New Zealand to promote talent attraction schemes

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) today (November 13) organised a seminar in Sydney to promote the working opportunities in Hong Kong.

Entitled “Hong Kong – Destination for TALENT”, the seminar was joined by the Immigration officers of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. They introduced the pilot Admission Scheme for the Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents (ASSG) and other enhancement measures to the admission arrangements for talent, professionals and entrepreneurs which were implemented in May this year.

A speaker from a major Australian bank also shared his view on the opportunities of working in Hong Kong.

Hosting the seminar, the Deputy Director of HKETO, Mr Bernard Lo said, “Hong Kong’s economy continues to grow, presenting enormous business opportunities and promising career prospect. We need a bigger pool of talent, professionals and entrepreneurs to support our economic development,” Mr Lo said.

The ASSG aims to attract the second generation of Hong Kong people who have emigrated overseas to return to the city. “There is no quota under this scheme and applicants are not required to have secured an offer of employment before entry,” Mr Lo noted.

“Apart from ASSG, we have also enhanced the existing talent admission arrangements to improve the attractiveness of Hong Kong for overseas talent who are interested to work and live in the city,” he added.

Mr Lo welcomed and encouraged participants in the seminar with valuable skills and experience, including those second generation of Hong Kong people, to go to Hong Kong and explore career opportunities in the city while gaining first-hand experience of and building personal connections with Asia.

Apart from today’s seminar, similar events were held in Melbourne and Auckland earlier this week.
