‘Must-See Hong Kong Films’ to be screened at Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival

Five Hong Kong films of cultural and historical significance will be screened at this year’s Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival to showcase Hong Kong’s rich cinematic culture.

Entitled ‘Coming To Terms With Change: Must-See Films from Hong Kong’, the programme was presented by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO).

These five films, namely Shanghai Blues (1984), The Spooky Bunch (1980), China Behind (1974), The Story of a Discharged Prisoner (1967) and It Was A Cold Winter Night (1955), were selected from Hong Kong Film Archive’s “100 Must-see Hong Kong Movies” list. They will be shown from 21 to 24 November at the festival.

“These films will showcase the rich cinematic heritage of Hong Kong and let viewers experience some of the best Hong Kong movies,” said Arthur Au, Director of HKETO.

“Hong Kong has been making movies for more than a century. Over the past decade, Hong Kong films and talent have won over 300 international awards. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will continue to support the film industry,” he added.

HKETO’s sponsorship also includes a panel discussion on martial arts and art films led by film critic and curator Sam Ho. The event is open to the public and will be held at 4pm on Saturday 28 November at the State Library of Queensland.
