Bringing Hong Kong’s arts and culture to Adelaide
The diversity and vibrancy of Hong Kong art scene will be showcased to the Australian audience in the OzAsia Festival 2016 to be launched in Adelaide starting from this Sunday (Sept 18).With the support from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO) and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, the Festival will present a major arts and culture focus on Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong series will kick off with the Moon Lantern Festival on September 18 in which a Hong Kong Dragon lantern will parade to celebrate the Festival with members of public in Adelaide. It will also feature the Australian premiere of the City Contemporary Dance Company’s acclaimed production As if to Nothing, an exhibition of visual artist Kingsley Ng, a retrospective of film director Johnnie To, and an outdoor music concert by Hong Kong music groups and artists.
Presented by the Adelaide Festival Centre, the OzAsia Festival is one of the most important international art festivals in Australia. Running from September 18 to October 2, the Festival this year features contemporary arts of theatre, films, dance, music and visual arts from across Asia.
The Director of HKETO, Mr Arthur Au said, “HKETO’s participation in the OzAsia Festival demonstrates our commitment to strengthening the cultural ties between Hong Kong and Australia.
“It also provides a good opportunity to showcase Hong Kong’s performing arts and creative talent in the international arena.”
