Chinese music concert to celebrate HKSAR’s 20th Anniversary
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Melbourne-based Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra and Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra jointly presented a Chinese music concert in Melbourne last Saturday (August 19).The “HK 20 & Chao Feng 35” concert, supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO) also marked the 35th anniversary of the founding of Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra. The performance at the Melbourne Recital Centre featured traditional and contemporary compositions performed with 35 different traditional instruments.
Speaking to the audience at the opening of the performance, the Director of HKETO, Mr Arthur Au, said in the past twenty years, Hong Kong had been developing as Asia’s culture hub.
“Each year, there are over 8,000 performances ranging from Chinese music, Cantonese Opera to Broadway musical and ballet”.
“We have much more to offer when the West Kowloon Cultural District prepares to open in phases in coming years, including a Xiqu Centre (Chinese Opera), M+ museum for visual culture and Lyric Theatre Complex”, Mr Au added.
Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra is one of the oldest Chinese orchestras in Hong Kong, dedicated to promoting Chinese music and providing performing opportunities for young musicians.
Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra is the largest Chinese orchestra in Australia, and aims to promote traditional Chinese culture and music in Australia.
The joint performance showcased collaboration between the music talent of Hong Kong and Australia.
