COVID-19 updates

Entry to Australia:
From 12:01am on 11 March 2023, people travelling to Australia from China, including Hong Kong and Macau, are not required to show evidence of a negative pre-departure test for COVID-19.

Entry to New Zealand:
Travellers are encouraged to take a RAT if they have COVID-19 symptoms when they arrive in New Zealand by air. If tested positive, they must self-isolate for 7 days and should follow up with a PCR test from a community testing centre or healthcare provider.

All pre-departure and post-arrival quarantine and testing requirements have been removed.

Sydney Open 2019

Hong Kong House, home of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney, opened for public visit on November 3 as part of Sydney Living Museum's Sydney Open 2019 and attracted over 680 visitors.... The annual event provides great opportunities for visitors to appreciate historical buildings and urban landscapes in Sydney. During the open day, photos showing Hong Kong House’s history were displayed, along with promotional videos and exhibition panels about the latest developments of Hong Kong. Souvenirs with Hong Kong characteristics were also given away to visitors to further promote the Asia’s world city.

OzAsia 2019

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO), has again participated in one of Australia's leading international arts festivals - the OzAsia Festival in the city of Adelaide, Australia.... The HKETO supported the event organiser, the Adelaide Festival Centre, in bringing a giant 40-metre-long Hong Kong Dragon to the Moon Lantern Parade at Adelaide's Elder Park on October 19. Through this fabulous illuminated dragon, the HKETO showcased the vibrancy of Hong Kong as an international cultural metropolis grounded in Chinese traditions to the Australian audience. Other interesting Hong Kong experiences brought to the festival hub by HKETO included a a branded Hong Kong Dragon Bar, an interactive photo site featuring the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, and face-painting activities with Hong Kong characteristics.

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development visits Australia

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, visited Sydney, Australia, on 25 and 26 March to attend the signing ceremony of the Hong Kong-Australia Free Trade Agreement and Investment Agreement held on 26 March.... Speaking at a luncheon seminar organised by the HKETO Sydney on 26 March, Mr Yau said the Free Trade Agreement and Investment Agreement signed between Hong Kong and Australia provided a new platform for the two sides to meet and review trade and investment initiatives with a view to promoting deeper and broader economic integration.

Business seminar in Auckland showcases unparalleled business opportunities of Greater Bay Area

HKETO Sydney, together with the Auckland Business Chamber, held a business seminar in Auckland, New Zealand, on 21 March on the unparalleled opportunities offered by Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for New Zealand businesses.... Entitled "Accessing the world's largest market through Hong Kong", the seminar presented to New Zealand business leaders the important role Hong Kong plays in the Greater Bay Area's development and how Hong Kong can provide benefits for New Zealand across many areas given that it is the most open international city in the Greater Bay Area, a well-connected transport hub, and an innovation and technology centre. In addition, HKETO Sydney also co-hosted a reception in Auckland with the HKTDC, InvestHK and the Hong Kong-New Zealand Business Association, under the theme of "Connect and Excel".

HKETO celebrates Year of the Pig in Australia

HKETO Sydney co-hosted a Chinese New Year reception with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong-Australia Business Association in Sydney on 19 February and in Melbourne on 25 February under the theme of "Connect and Excel"....
Speaking at the receptions, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Raymond Fan, said 2018 was an incredibly successful year for Hong Kong and a landmark one for the Hong Kong-Australia relationship. Mr Fan said 2019 is shaping up to be another excellent year both for Hong Kong and for its relations with Australia, noting the successful conclusion of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between Hong Kong and Australia in November last year. Mr Fan said the Greater Bay Area would surely bring Hong Kong significant opportunities to diversify its economy and develop innovation and technology, which is an economic driver in the new era.

City of Sydney Lunar Festival Dragon Boat Races 2019

To share the joy of the Lunar New Year with members of the public in Australia, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO) participated in the Sydney Lunar Festival Dragon Boat Races at Darling Harbour on 9 and 10 February....A “Hong Kong Team” organised by HKETO competed in the Social Category of the races on 10 February. HKETO also set up a marquee to promote Hong Kong during the two-day event and give out free souvenirs with Hong Kong’s characteristic and information leaflets about Hong Kong. Hong Kong-themed banners with Lunar New Year greeting messages were displayed in some key city locations of Sydney during the Lunar New Year period. Find out more here.

Auckland Lantern Festival 2019

To celebrate the Year of the Pig with members of the public in New Zealand, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO) once again participated in the Auckland Lantern Festival....Eight giant pillar lanterns were displayed with beautiful Hong Kong photos to showcase Hong Kong’s unique culture and diversity during the Festival from 14 to 17 February 2019 at Auckland Domain. HKETO also operated a Hong Kong marquee with free give-away souvenirs and updated information leaflets about Hong Kong. Find out more here.
