COVID-19 updates

Entry to Australia:
From 12:01am on 11 March 2023, people travelling to Australia from China, including Hong Kong and Macau, are not required to show evidence of a negative pre-departure test for COVID-19.

Entry to New Zealand:
Travellers are encouraged to take a RAT if they have COVID-19 symptoms when they arrive in New Zealand by air. If tested positive, they must self-isolate for 7 days and should follow up with a PCR test from a community testing centre or healthcare provider.

All pre-departure and post-arrival quarantine and testing requirements have been removed.

The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Raymond Fan, attended the live stream event of Hong Kong Forum organised by the Hong Kong Australia Business Association (National Chapter) on December 1 at Hong Kong House. ...Hong Kong Forum is the annual flagship event of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide, a unique network of 46 Hong Kong Business Associations in 35 countries. Before the start of live streaming of Hong Kong Forum, Mr Fan gave an opening remarks on the latest development of Hong Kong, including major initiatives of the Chief Executive's 2020 Policy Address, to all the attendees. During the live stream event, attendees got an update on Hong Kong’s business opportunities from a speech of the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan.

The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Raymond Fan, briefed presidents and committee members of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association (HKABA) and Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association (HKNZBA) via video conferencing ...on November 27 the major initiatives of the Chief Executive's 2020 Policy Address. Ms Jacinta Reddan, Chief Executive of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, noted the opportunities created by GBA in reviving economic growth, trade and investment during the global economic downturn. Mr Arnold Cheng, Director - Hong Kong & Pearl River Delta of John Swire & Sons (China) Limited, said the GBA gave them new opportunities to grow their businesses by expanding their home market to a market 10 times bigger by accessing the resources more easily and deploying their resources more effectively. Ms Bonnie Shek, Director of HKTDC (Australia and NZ) provided an updated on the revamped e-marketplace launched by HKTDC to support traders and businesses during this period.

The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Raymond Fan, briefed attendees at the Annual Gala Dinner of Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association (HKNZBA) via video conferencing the major initiatives of the Chief Executive's 2020 Policy Address. ...The Policy Address revealed wide-ranging strategies to make full use of Hong Kong's advantages under the "One Country, Two Systems" principle, reboot Hong Kong's economy, create new opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and further promote innovation and technology. The Gala Dinner held on November 25 marked the conclusion of HKNZBA’s annual Hong Kong Festival which was supported by HKETO Sydney.

On October 8, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney, held its fourth Hong Kong House webinar titled “Stepping into the Greater Bay Area” to discuss new opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) particularly for the post-pandemic era. ... Hong Kong House Webinar #3 "Hong Kong's strengths as an international finance centre in a pandemic and beyond"

On August 19, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney, held its third Hong Kong House webinar titled "Hong Kong's strengths as an international finance centre in a pandemic and beyond". ... In his presentation titled "Certainty and Uncertainty", the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Christopher Hui, talked in details on the monetary and fiscal stability of Hong Kong, the Government's three-pronged approach to economic recovery, the new opportunities for the financial services industry, for example, the new catalysts for growth for the financial market, the increase in product variety which brought about opportunities for global investors, the unique advantage of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in comparison to other Bay Areas in the world in particular for the financial services industry. He also discussed the development and opportunities for FinTech industry and its ecosystem, and encouraged businesses in Australia and New Zealand to learn more and benefit from the new growth. Further, he encouraged Australian property companies to list REIT in Hong Kong. He said that there was a more stable social environment after the promulgation of the National Security Law.

On June 17, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney, held its second webinar of “Hong Kong House Webinar Series” to discuss how innovative measures and health technology solutions employed by Hong Kong companies have been keeping people and the economy moving and ready for recovery. ... CEO (Australian Business) of the Mass Transit Railway Corporation Ltd (MTRC), Mr Terry Wong, explained six key areas of MTRC in its responses against COVID-19. General Manager (South West Pacific) of Cathay Pacific Airways, Mr Rakesh Raicar, shared information on their efforts in safeguarding against COVID-19 including thorough pre-flight requirements and arrangements. Director, Australia and New Zealand, of Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Ms Bonnie Shek, gave some good examples of Hong Kong’s innovation and technology solutions in tracking and tracing in the fight against the virus.

The Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Raymond Fan, gave details of HKSAR Government’s anti-epidemic measures, relief package to support businesses, and opportunities in post-epidemic era. Mr Fan said with Hong Kong’s free trade agreements with Australia and New Zealand, the city is well positioned for Australian and New Zealand businesses to look for opportunities in the post-epidemic era.

Mr Fan was joined by Head of Invest Hong Kong for Australia and New Zealand, Dr Luca de Leonardis; Director, Australia and New Zealand, of Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Ms Bonnie Shek; and Regional Director, Australia and New Zealand, of Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mr Andrew Clark, who shared their insights on the challenges, the latest support measures amid COVID-19 crisis, and discussed what these could mean for Australian and New Zealand businesses.
