The Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, attended the Hong Kong Forum Live-streaming and Networking Events organised by the New South Wales Chapter and the Queensland Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association respectively on 29 November. ...Miss Lim said that the Hong Kong Forum this year would look at Hong Kong’s resilient status in international trade and investment, its new offerings in areas from innovation and technology, sustainability to wellness that complement the sustainable development in the region and the new venture of global companies in Asia and beyond. She also shared with the participants an array of proactive initiatives announced in the Chief Executive’s 2022 Policy Address and highlighted that specific focus has been put on attracting enterprises, investment and talents. The Acting Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Henry Mak, virtually attended the Food and Wine Appreciation Dinner organised by the Victoria Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association on 25 November. ...Mr Mak shared with the participants that Hong Kong is no stranger to exceptional food and wine, and is known as a “wine paradise” with the best international winery products assembling in the city, including a huge proportion from Australia. As of September 2022, Australia ranked second in terms of Hong Kong’s wine imports. Hong Kong is also one of the top five markets of Australian wine by value in the 12 months to September 2022, with an export value of around AUD$163 million. Mr Mak highlighted that with the lifting of quarantine requirements for overseas visitors in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair is scheduled for January 2023. He encouraged the participants to visit Hong Kong to delight their taste buds and explore all the exciting developments in the city.

The Acting Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Henry Mak, attended the ALMAC 2022 Business Networking Event jointly organised by HKETO and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and supported by the Australian Trade & Logistics Corporation, on 22 November. ...Mr Mak shared with the participants that with the staunch support bestowed by the Central Government over the years, Hong Kong has developed into one of the most important international logistics and maritime centres as well as international aviation hubs in the world. He highlighted the key initiatives announced in the Chief Executive’s 2022 Policy Address, including strengthening high value-added maritime and logistics services, building a smart and green port, upgrading the facilities of the land boundary control points as well as building the Airport City in Hong Kong. As the world continues to reconnect after COVID-19, Mr Mak encouraged the participants to visit Hong Kong to explore the exciting developments in the city and take part in future editions of the ALMAC and the Hong Kong Maritime Week in person.

Career Talk 2022
HKETO organised a career talk with the Hong Kong Student Association of the University of New South Wales on 29 September. ...An online career talk was also held on the same day. The Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Henry Mak, shared with Hong Kong students studying in Australia and New Zealand an overview of the job market in Hong Kong and the various schemes and initiatives of the Government for attracting talents to Hong Kong. Mr Mak also provided the students with details on the career opportunities in the civil service in Hong Kong, in particular the Administrative Officer Grade, and the recruitment exercise this year. HKETO would continue to share relevant information with the students to help them plan for the future.

She said that the Government will continue to promote fintech development on all fronts and has earmarked HK$10 million to launch a new round of the Fintech Proof-of-Concept Subsidy Scheme to promote continuous innovation. Miss Lim added that talent is essential to fintech development. The Government has doubled the annual quota for the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme to 4 000 to welcome talents, including fintech professionals, from all over the world.
Hong Kong films make waves in Sydney to celebrate 25th anniversary of establishment of HKSAR
HKETO supported the “Making Waves - Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema” to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. ...Presented by Create Hong Kong in collaboration with the New South Wales Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association, eight Hong Kong films were screened from 9 to 11 September in Sydney to showcase the vibrancy and diversity of Hong Kong film industry. A reception was held before the screening of Table for Six to kick-start the programme. Addressing the audience, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, said that Hong Kong is a leading film-making centre in Asia and is renowned as a cosmopolitan city full of creativity. She added that the National 14th Five-Year Plan indicates clear support for Hong Kong’s development into a hub for arts and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world. Hong Kong will seize upon its unique creative atmosphere where Chinese and Western cultures meet to position Hong Kong as Asia’s city of culture and creativity.
Director Sunny Chan and actress Stephy Tang of Table for Six also met with the Sydney audience via a live holo-presence before the start of the screening. The programme marked the conclusion of the celebration events hosted by HKETO.
Chinese music concert in Melbourne celebrates 25th anniversary of establishment of HKSAR
HKETO presented the "HK 25 & Chao Feng 40" Chinese music concert in Melbourne on 4 September to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the HKSAR. ...The concert was well-received by over 900 guests. Various classic masterpieces were performed by Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra to bring the audience an unforgettable experience of traditional Chinese music. Speaking at the opening of the concert, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, said that as a melting pot of Chinese and Western cultures, Hong Kong has brought together dynamic talents to promote cultural exchange between East and West. The Government will continue to adopt a multi-pronged approach to realise the positioning of Hong Kong as a hub for arts and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world as supported under the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

Experience Hong Kong held in Sydney to celebrate 25th anniversary of HKSAR
A fascinating extravaganza "Experience Hong Kong" was held on 27 August at the Hordern Pavilion in Moore Park, Sydney to offer Sydneysiders a fun-filled day with a unique Hong Kong cultural and culinary experience. ...Organised by the New South Wales Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association and supported by HKETO, the event received overwhelming response with over 10 000 people attended. Food stalls delivering signature Hong Kong delicacies, as well as activities including a lion dance, martial arts, tai chi and a Chinese calligraphy demonstration, were presented for visitors to enjoy. Free rides on two vintage Hong Kong double-decker buses were also popular highlights at the event.
Addressing the event in a speech delivered via video, the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the HKSAR, Mr Kevin Yeung, said that with the dedication of the Government in recent years, Hong Kong is definitely one of the most important cultural and sports hubs in the world. In addition to highlighting the West Kowloon Cultural District as one of the world's largest cultural projects, Mr Yeung shared with the participants the latest sports developments of Hong Kong, including the great success achieved by Hong Kong athletes in the recent Olympic Games.
“Convergence” dance performance presented in Sydney to celebrate HKSAR 25th anniversary
HKETO presented a dance performance “Convergence - A Journey of Chinese Dance & Martial Arts” in Sydney on 23 August to mark the 25th anniversary of the HKSAR. ...In collaboration with Hong Kong Dance Company (HKDC) and Sydney Dance Company (SDC), the performance fostered the cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Australia in a hybrid format through an in-person performance by pre-professional year dancers from SDC, an online dance production “Convergence” by HKDC as well as a virtual live dialogue session with representatives of HKDC. The event was well-received by around 100 audience.
Addressing the guests, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, said that the name of “Convergence” not only showcases the interdisciplinary collaborations of dance and martial arts, but also represents the uniqueness of Hong Kong as a melting pot of Chinese and Western cultures. She also welcomed all international dance companies to take the stage at the Lyric Theatre Complex at the West Kowloon Cultural District to be completed in 2024.

Addressing the reception in a virtual speech, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, shared that with the unique advantages of "one country, two systems" and the unwavering support of the Central Government, Hong Kong has grown and prospered as Asia's leading world-class city and will actively integrate into the country's overall development. On the long-standing relationship between Hong Kong and New Zealand, Mr Yau noted that New Zealand is the first foreign economy that Hong Kong entered into a free trade agreement with and Hong Kong looks forward to joining the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to pursue further economic advancement with its members, including New Zealand. Webinar on New Pathway for Admission of Qualified Doctors Trained Outside Hong Kong
The Secretary for Food and Health of the HKSAR, Professor Sophia Chan, addressed around 200 participants, including medical students and practitioners in Australia, during a webinar on 6 May to promote the new pathway for qualified doctors trained outside Hong Kong to obtain full registration and practise in Hong Kong. ...During the webinar, Professor Chan briefed the attendees on the details of the new pathway under the amended Medical Registration Ordinance, the promulgation of the first batch of recognised medical qualifications and other follow-up actions taken by the Government to facilitate the admission of non-locally trained doctors to practise in Hong Kong. Representatives from the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority in Hong Kong also introduced the career opportunities in their respective organisations to the attendees. Professor Chan said that the first batch of the list of recognised medical qualifications, consisting of two medical qualifications in Australia, was gazetted on 29 April. The second batch of the list is expected to be promulgated within June 2022. She encouraged all medical students and practitioners in Australia to come to Hong Kong and serve citizens in the public healthcare institutions. Medical students and practitioners who attended the webinar welcomed the introduction of the new pathway and were eager to learn about the opportunities in Hong Kong. The webinar was jointly organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney and the Australasian Medical Services Coalition.
