HKETO supports music tour of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in Australia
HKETO supported the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) in its staging of three music concerts in Australia to promote traditional Chinese music and showcase the music talent of Hong Kong. ...The HKCO started the Image China concert tour in Melbourne on 19 December, followed by a performance in Sydney on 21 December, with the last performance in Brisbane on 23 December. Nearly 80 outstanding musicians performed classical Chinese music repertoires including “The Silk Road Fantasia Suite”, “Dream of the Red Chamber Suite” and “The Terra Cotta Warriors”, presenting a grand feast of traditional Chinese music seamlessly blended with a modern touch.
Speaking at the receptions in Melbourne and Sydney, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, said that it is always a priority of HKETO to promote arts and cultural exchanges with the local communities in Australia. To realise the positioning of Hong Kong as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange under the 14th Five-Year Plan, HKETO is working proactively in assisting the touring of arts groups and delegations, whether they are travelling from Hong Kong to Australia or the other way round.
Director of HKETO Sydney attended the 2023 China (Shenzhen) – Australia (Sydney) Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, attended the 2023 China (Shenzhen) – Australia (Sydney) Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference hosted by the Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality on 15 December. ...Miss Lim said that the collaboration between Hong Kong and Shenzhen is closer than ever on many fronts, especially on innovation and technology (I&T) as the strengths of the two cities are leveraged to create one of the best I&T ecosystems in the world. The Hong Kong-Shenzhen I&T Park, now under development, will become Hong Kong’s largest I&T centre and the bridgehead for I&T co-operation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, serving as a hub of global technological innovation and important source of emerging industries.
Miss Lim also highlighted that the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address has shown the Government's dedication to dovetail with national strategies and realise Hong Kong’s development of the eight centres outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan. Many of the initiatives focused on deepening collaboration in the Greater Bay Area in such areas as investment, logistics, maritime, fintech and green finance.

The Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Henry Mak, virtually attended the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Development" Networking Event organised by the Western Australia Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association on 13 December. ...Mr Mak said that GBA is one of the most open and economically vibrant regions in China with a total population of over 86 million and a GDP of over A$2.5 trillion, equivalent to the tenth largest economy in the world. As the "super-connector" and "super value-adder" for the GBA and Mainland China as a whole, Hong Kong is irreplaceable as the best destination for people to tap the vast potential in China. He also introduced the latest GBA oriented-initiatives in the Chief Executive's 2023 Policy Address, notably the Northern Metropolis in Hong Kong as the new engine for growth, as well as the establishment of the Alliance of Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurial Bases in the GBA as a one-stop information, publicity and exchange platform.

The Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Henry Mak, attended the "Leveraging a Global Mindset for Career and Personal Success" seminar jointly organised by the New South Wales Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association and Fish Talk on 8 November. ...Mr Mak said that exciting times lie ahead for Hong Kong as it takes full advantage under “one country, two systems” to capitalise on both the China and global advantages. He introduced the latest initiatives in the Chief Executive's 2023 Policy Address,notably the proactive measures to trawl for enterprises as well as to attract and retain talents, including developing a “Headquarters Economy”, the launching of “multiple-entry visas” for foreign staff of companies in Hong Kong to travel to the Mainland with priority visa processing, as well as expanding the coverage of universities under the Top Talent Pass Scheme by adding eight top-notch institutions from the Mainland and overseas to the list. Mr Mak encouraged participants to visit Hong Kong and explore the unlimited opportunities there.
Three Hong Kong films showcased in Australia
Three Hong Kong films “Back Home”, “Over My Dead Body” and “Vital Sign” are showcased in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth from 29 October to 7 November in the Hong Kong Screening Week of the 2023 Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival. ...Sydney ETO hosted a reception in Melbourne and Sydney on 29 October and 1 November respectively to facilitate exchanges between the filming industry in Hong Kong and Australia.
Addressing the audience, the Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, said that Hong Kong has always been a fertile ground for cultural and creative industries and the Government is determined to realise the positioning of Hong Kong as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange as supported under the 14th Five Year Plan. Miss Lim also highlighted the initiatives announced in the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address on promoting filming and creative industries, notably the injection of HK$4.3 billion to the Film Development Fund and the CreateSmart Initiative, and the launch of the Filming Financing Scheme for Mainland Market and the Hong Kong-Europe-Asian Film Collaboration Funding Scheme.

The Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, attended the Business Awards Gala Dinner organised by the South Australia (SA) Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association on 27 October. ...Miss Lim pointed out that Hong Kong and SA have close and ever-growing trade ties. Miss Lim shared that the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises has reached out to over 200 strategic enterprises since its establishment late last year, of which 30 are planning to establish their foothold or expand their operations in Hong Kong. Miss Lim also highlighted the initiatives announced in the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address on attracting enterprises and talents, notably developing “headquarters economy” to attract enterprises from around the world to set up headquarters or corporate divisions in Hong Kong.

Miss Lim also introduced the proactive measures announced in the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address to trawl for and retain talents, notably the establishment of the physical office of the Hong Kong Talent Engage and the expansion of the coverage of universities under the Top Talent Pass Scheme.

Hong Kong Dragon shone in 2023 OzAsia Festival
HKETO has again participated in the OzAsia Festival organised by the Adelaide Festival Centre (AFC) this year to promote the latest developments of the arts and cultural scene in Hong Kong. ...The signature 40-metre-long Hong Kong Dragon was presented at one of the highlight events of the Festival, the Moon Lantern Trail, to showcase the vibrancy of Hong Kong as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange to audiences in Australia.
Speaking at a reception of the Moon Lantern Trail on 21 October, the Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Henry Mak, commended the work of AFC as it celebrates its 50th anniversary and the strong relationship between the HKETO and the OzAsia Festival. He also took the chance to introduce the world-class cultural facilities of Hong Kong, notably the West Kowloon Cultural District; as well as various talent admission initiatives to attract top-notch talent from the arts and culture sector and creative industries.
The OzAsia Festival this year also welcomed the Hong Kong performing arts group TS Crew staging a "No Dragon No Lion" performance, which married elements of the lion dance and Chinese opera with beatboxing, martial arts, tricking, and parkour.

The Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, attended the closing ceremony of the inaugural Innovation and Technology (I&T) Show organised by the Queensland Chapter of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association on 20 October ...Miss Lim shared with the participants that promoting I&T is a top priority for the HKSAR Government, highlighting the setting up of a number of I&T venture funds to significantly broaden fundraising channels for start-ups, as well as the Strategic Tech Fund worth about A$1 billion to support Hong Kong tech companies while attracting foreign start-ups. Miss Lim said that Hong Kong will play a pivotal role in realising the ambition for the Greater Bay Area to rise as a world-class I&T hub, and that the Hong Kong-Shenzhen I&T Park, now under development, will become Hong Kong’s largest I&T centre and serve as the bridgehead for I&T co-operation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Mr Mak also introduced the immense opportunities in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, as well as various proactive initiatives rolled out by the Government to attract talents to Hong Kong.
Director of HKETO Sydney visited Hong Kong Artists Chocolate Rain and Frog King's exhibition
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, attended the opening of The Artistic Fusion@Broadway in Sydney on 16 October, ...where internationally renowned Hong Kong artists Chocolate Rain (Prudence Mak) and Frog King (Kwok Man Ho) are embarking on their first ever collaboration, featuring over 50 artworks and 3D creations. Miss Lim also visited Chocolate Rain at The Other Art Fair in Sydney on 13 October to show her support, where 130 independent artists hand-picked by a selection committee of art world experts showcased their unique collections. Miss Lim welcomed Chocolate Rain to Sydney and was glad to see Hong Kong artists showcasing their talents and artworks to local people in Australia. The Government has been striving to support artists and arts groups to feature their artworks or performances overseas with a view to promoting Hong Kong as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.

The 14th Five-Year Plan has also given Hong Kong distinct development directions into eight international or regional centres, in areas including finance, trading, aviation, and innovation and technology (I&T). She also highlighted the overwhelming response of the Top Talent Pass Scheme and various upgraded talent admission schemes with over 160 000 applications received globally and over 100 000 of them approved.
Addressing the Gala Dinner virtually, the Deputy Director-General of the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES), Mr Raymond Fan, shared that OASES reflects what the HKSAR Government believes the companies from around the world can count on: an evergreen and innovative economy, and a productive and engaging community. He added that the "one country, two systems" principle ensures Hong Kong's continuing status as an international economic, trade and financial centre, and its enviable ability to grasp the boundless prospects of the country's rapid development. The Government has set up a Co-Investment Fund of about $6 billion to co-invest in strategic enterprises. OASES has just signed an agreement with the first batch of strategic enterprises setting up or expanding their businesses in Hong Kong, with around 30 strategic enterprises to be OASES' partners who will jointly promote the development of the I&T ecosystem of Hong Kong.
Under Secretary for Health attended medical conference and visited primary healthcare organisations in New Zealand
The Under Secretary for Health, Dr Libby Lee, enlightened participants of the annual Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) Conference in Auckland on 13 October about the progress of Hong Kong's efforts in reforming the primary healthcare system. ...She also introduced the various measures rolled out since the release of the Primary Healthcare Blueprint last December, including the establishment of a primary healthcare system at the district level, promotion of the family doctor concept, as well as the enhancement to the Electronic Health Record Sharing System.
Accompanied by the Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, the Commissioner for Primary Healthcare, Dr Pang Fei-chau, and Assistant Commissioner for Primary Healthcare Dr Tony Ha, Dr Lee also visited a Primary Health Organisation (PHO) and two general practice clinics in Auckland to gain a better understanding of their approach of engaging non-profit organisations and private healthcare organisations in co-ordinating or providing primary healthcare services under government subsidy. They met with representatives from the Health New Zealand (Health NZ), the Auckland PHO, the East Health Trust PHO and ProCare, which is a leading healthcare provider, to have in-depth exchanges. In addition, the party toured teaching clinics of the University of Auckland to explore New Zealand's work in nurturing primary healthcare talent. The visits provided a chance for a comprehensive understanding of New Zealand's experiences which are valuable to Hong Kong in accomplishing the city's primary healthcare development in a refined manner.

HKETO organised three career talks for the Hong Kong Student Associations of Macquarie University, the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney on 29 September and 4 October respectively. ...An online career talk was also held for students in Australia and New Zealand on 4 October. The Deputy Director of HKETO Sydney, Mr Henry Mak, gave an overview of Hong Kong’s job market and the career opportunities in the Hong Kong civil service, particularly on the Administrative Officer Grade and the latest recruitment exercise, as well as the Administrative Service Winter Internship Programme 2023. Mr Mak also introduced the initiatives of the Government for attracting talents to Hong Kong.

The Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, attended the 21st Anniversary Celebration Dinner of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Australia) Association on 26 September. ...Miss Lim welcomed the President and Vice-President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), Professor Jin-Guang Teng and Professor Christopher Chao, to meet with the PolyU alumni in Sydney. She said that HKETO has maintained a very close relationship with the Association as it is an integral part of the Hong Kong and Chinese community in Sydney, commending its support in promoting and joining HKETO’s events. Miss Lim also introduced the “Night Vibes Hong Kong” campaign and encouraged the PolyU alumni to visit Hong Kong and join the signature events, including the return of the National Day Fireworks Display, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, the Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival, the Hong Kong WinterFest, the New Year Countdown Celebrations, and the Chinese New Year Night Parade.

HKETO jointly organised the “Pioneering Smart Cities of Tomorrow with AI and innovation” business seminar with Invest Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) on 26 September. ...Professor Hong Kam Lo, Dean of Engineering and Chair Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of HKUST shared at the seminar his insights on the immense possibilities of AI in driving the development of green and transformative cities.
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, said that the Government has made unprecedented strides to promote I&T development and the number of start-ups in Hong Kong has increased to about 4 000 with over 10 unicorns. On AI development front, Miss Lim added that the Government is putting in efforts in ensuring adequate computing infrastructure to forge ahead with AI development and will conduct a feasibility study on the development of an AI Supercomputing Centre in Hong Kong, which aims to provide cutting-edge computing power and capability to local universities and research institutes, government departments and industry sectors, and be a strong impetus to the AI ecosystem.

HKETO also co-hosted a roundtable luncheon with Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council for the HKSTP delegation on 21 September. Addressing representatives of 20 technology companies based in Melbourne at the luncheon, Miss Lim introduced the work of the Government in the innovation and technology (I&T) space, highlighting the key strategies of the Hong Kong I&T Development Blueprint to chart Hong Kong in moving full steam towards the vision of an international I&T centre. She said that the Government is putting prime focus on the development of industries of strategic importance, including life and health technology, AI and data science, advanced manufacturing and new energy technology. Addressing the seminar in a video speech, the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr Lam Sai-hung, said that Hong Kong excels in the logistics, maritime and aviation sectors, with Shipping Register as the fourth largest in the world in terms of gross tonnage and the airport as the world’s busiest international cargo airport. He added that the National 14th Five-Year Plan has supported the development of the international maritime centre and international aviation hub in Hong Kong, and highlighted an array of initiatives ranging from tax concessions, sustainability, smart and digitalisation to major infrastructural developments.
The Director of HKETO Sydney, Miss Trista Lim, said that Hong Kong’s economy improved visibly in the first quarter, growing by 2.7% from a year earlier.
